|WHY JESUS HAD TO DIE AND COME BACK TO LIFE
|"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life.
He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.' "
The Bible, John 11:25
Death has been swallowed up in victory!
Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?
Thanks be to God!
He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
The Bible, 1st Corinthians 15:54b-57
|PROOFS JESUS CAME BACK TO LIFE
BOTH THE SANHEDRIN AND ROMAN GOVERNOR KNEW WHERE JESUS WAS BURIED, SO HAD HIS TOMB
SEALED SECURELY AND GUARDS PLACED THERE: The Bible, Matthew 27:57-66 ~ "As evening approached, there
came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself become a disciple of Jesus. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus'
body, and Pilate ordered that it be given to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own
new tomb that he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away. 61Mary
Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb. The next day, the one after Preparation Day, the chief priests
and the Pharisees went to Pilate. "Sir," they said, "we remember that while he was still alive that deceiver said, 'After three days I
will rise again.' So give the order for the tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal
the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first."
"Take a guard," Pilate answered. "Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how." So they went and made the tomb secure by
putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard." [See also The Bible, Mark 15:42-46; Luke 50-55; John 19:38-42]
JESUS' ENEMIES NEVER PRODUCED HIS DEAD BODY: The Bible Matthew 28:1-4, 11-15 ~ "After the Sabbath, at dawn
on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an
angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like
lightning, and his clothes were white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. Some
of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. When the chief priests had met
with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, telling them, "You are to say, 'His disciples came
during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.' If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you
out of trouble." So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among
the Jews to this very day.
JESUS APPEARED TO OVER 500 PEOPLE AFTER COMING BACK TO LIFE: The Bible, 1st Corinthians 15:3b-8 ~
"Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the
Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the
brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the
apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also." [Written by Apostle Paul]
THE JEWISH SANHEDRIN [GOVERNING BODY] DID NOT DENY IT: The Bible, Acts 4:2-21 ~ "They were greatly
disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. They seized Peter
and John and...put them in jail. But many who had heard the message believed and the number of men grew to about five
thousand. The next day the rulers, elders and teachers of the law met...Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, 'Rulers
and elders of the people! ...Know this, you and all the people of Israel, it is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth whom you
crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed....' When they saw the courage of Peter and
John...they were astonished and took note that these men had been with Jesus....Then they command them not to speak or teach
at all in the name of Jesus....After further threats, they let them go....because all the people were praising God for what had
THE JEWISH HISTORIAN, JOSEPHUS, WHO LIVED IN JERUSALEM AT THE TIME OF JESUS, WROTE A FEW
YEARS AFTER THIS THAT JESUS RETURNED TO LIFE: Antiquities of the Jews, 18:63-64 ~ "Now there was about this
time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man; for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive
the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of the Gentiles. He was [the] Christ. And when
Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men amongst us, had condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not
forsake him; for he appeared to them alive again the third day; as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other
wonderful things concerning him. And the tribe of Christians, so named from him, are not extinct at this day."
|KING DAVID, THE PROPHET AND PSALMIST PREDICTED IT
c. 1000 B.C.
The Bible, Psalm 16:9,10 ~ "Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not
abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay."
The Bible, Acts 2:29-32 ~ The Apostle Peter explained, "Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was
buried, and his tomb is here to this day. But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place
one of his descendants on his throne. Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not
abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay. God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact."
|PROOFS JESUS HIMSELF DID DIE
HIS CLOSE FRIEND, THE APOSTLE JUDAS, IDENTIFIED HIM: The Bible, Matthew 26:47-54 ~ While he was still
speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests
and the elders of the people. Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: "The one I kiss is the man; arrest him." Going at
once to Jesus, Judas said, "Greetings, Rabbi!" and kissed him. Jesus replied, "Friend, do what you came for."
Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. With that, one of Jesus' companions reached for his sword, drew it
out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. "Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who
draw the sword will die by the sword. Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than
twelve legions of angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?" [See also The
Bible, Mark 14:43-47; Luke 22:47-52; John 18:2-11]
THE CROWD ARRESTING JESUS RECOGNIZED HIM AS THE SAME ONE THEY'D SEEN IN THE TEMPLE TEACHING
MANY TIMES: The Bible, Matthew 26:55 ~ At that time Jesus said to the crowd, "Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come
out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me."
[See also The Bible, Mark 14:48; Luke 22:53; John 18:12]
THE SANHEDRIN [JEWISH RULING BODY] THAT MET IN THE TEMPLE HAD SEEN JESUS THERE MANY TIMES: The
Bible John 18:19-23 ~ "Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about his disciples and his teaching. "I have spoken openly to
the world," Jesus replied. "I always taught in synagogues or at the temple, where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in
secret. Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said." When Jesus said this, one of the officials
nearby struck him in the face. "Is this the way you answer the high priest?" he demanded. "If I said something wrong," Jesus
replied, "testify as to what is wrong. But if I spoke the truth, why did you strike me?"
THE SANHEDRIN [JEWISH RULING BODY] HIRED FALSE WITNESSES, NOT TO CLAIM THIS WAS NOT REALLY
JESUS, BUT TO TELL LIES ABOUT WHAT JESUS HAD SAID: The Bible, Matthew 26:59-62 ~ "Those who had arrested
Jesus took him to Caiaphas, the high priest, where the teachers of the law and the elders had assembled. But Peter followed him at a
distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest. He entered and sat down with the guards to see the outcome. The chief priests
and the whole Sanhedrin were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. But they did not find
any, though many false witnesses came forward. Finally two came forward and declared, "This fellow said, 'I am able to destroy
the temple of God and rebuild it in three days.' " Then the high priest stood up and said to Jesus, "Are you not going to answer?
What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?" " [See also the Bible, Mark 14:53-59]
THE SANHEDRIN [JEWISH RULING BODY] WANTED HIM EXECUTED FOR BLASPHEMY ~ FOR DECLARING HE
WAS THE SON OF GOD: The Bible, Matthew 26:63-66 ~ "But Jesus remained silent. The high priest said to him, "I charge you
under oath by the living God: Tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. "But I say to all of
you: In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven."
Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, "He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you
have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?" "He is worthy of death," they answered. [See also The Bible, Mark 14:60-64;
THE GOVERNOR OF GALILEE WHERE JESUS GREW UP RECOGNIZED JESUS AND HOPED TO SEE HIM PERFORM
A MIRACLE: The Bible, Luke 23:8-11 ~ "When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased, because for a long time he had been
wanting to see him. From what he had heard about him, he hoped to see him perform some miracle. He plied him with many
questions, but Jesus gave him no answer. The chief priests and the teachers of the law were standing there, vehemently accusing
him. Then Herod and his soldiers ridiculed and mocked him. Dressing him in an elegant robe, they sent him back to Pilate."
THE ROMAN GOVERNOR OF JUDEA TOOK THE WORD OF THE SANHEDRIN THAT THIS WAS JESUS &
CONDEMNED HIM TO BE EXECUTED: The Bible, Matthew 27:11-18,26 ~ "Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and
the governor asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?" "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus replied. When he was accused by the chief
priests and the elders, he gave no answer. Then Pilate asked him, "Don't you hear the testimony they are bringing against you?" But
Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge—to the great amazement of the governor. Now it was the governor's custom at
the Feast to release a prisoner chosen by the crowd. At that time they had a notorious prisoner, called Barabbas. So when the
crowd had gathered, Pilate asked them, "Which one do you want me to release to you: Barabbas, or Jesus who is called Christ?"
For he knew it was out of envy that they had handed Jesus over to him....He had Jesus flogged, and handed him over to be
crucified." [See also The Bible, Mark 15:1-15; Luke 23:1-7; 13-25; John 19:1-16]
|SO WHAT DID JESUS RETURNING TO LIFE
ACCOMPLISH FOR MANKIND?
The Bible, Romans 1:1b-4 ~ "The Gospel of God ~ the gospel he promised beforehand through his prophets in the Holy
Scriptures, regarding his Son, who as to his human nature was a descendant of David, and who through the Spirit of holiness was
DECLARED WITH POWER TO BE THE SON OF GOD BY IS RESURRECTION FROM THE DEAD: JESUS CHRIST
Romans 6:3-10 ~ "Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were
therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the
Father, we too may live a new life. IF WE HAVE BEEN UNITED WITH HIM [JESUS] IN HIS DEATH, WE WILL
CERTAINLY ALSO BE UNITED WITH HIM IN HIS RESURRECTION. For we know that our old self was crucified with him
so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin— because anyone who has died has
been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. FOR WE KNOW THAT SINCE
CHRIST WAS RAISED FROM THE DEAD, HE CANNOT DIE AGAIN; DEATH NO LONGER HAS MASTERY OVER
HIM. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.
I Corinthians 15:12-20-26; ~ "But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For
since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead comes also through a man. FOR AS IN ADAM ALL DIE, SO IN
CHRIST ALL WILL BE MADE ALIVE. BUT EACH IN HIS OWN TURN: CHRIST, THE FIRSTFRUITS; THEN, WHEN
HE COMES, THOSE WHO BELONG TO HIM. Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father
after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet. THE
LAST ENEMY TO BE DESTROYED IS DEATH...."
I Corinthians 15:42-48 ~ "So will it be with the resurrection of the dead [of people]. The body that is sown is perishable, it is
raised imperishable; it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; it is sown a natural
body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. So it is written: THE FIRST MAN
ADAM BECAME A LIVING BEING; THE LAST ADAM [JESUS], A LIFE-GIVING SPIRIT. THE SPIRITUAL DID NOT
COME FIRST, BUT THE N ATURAL, AND AFTER THAT THE SPIRITUAL. THE FIRST MAN WAS OF THE DUST OF
THE EARTH, THE SECOND MAN FROM HEAVEN. AS WAS THE EARTHLY MAN, SO ARE THOSE WHO ARE OF THE
EARTH; AND AS IS THE MAN FROM HEAVEN, SO ALSO ARE THOSE WHO ARE OF HEAVEN."
|GOD HAD TO BE MANIFEST IN A HUMAN BODY SO HE COULD DIE
AND COME BACK TO LIFE, THUS CONQUERING DEATH FOR US
We shall all be changed in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.
For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.
For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable,
and the mortal with immortality.
When the perishable has been clothed with imperishable,
and the mortal with immortality
then the saying that is written will come true:
Death has been swallowed up in victory.
Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?
The sting of death is sin,
and the power of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God!
He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
I Corinthians 15:52-57
Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire; the lake of fire is the second death.
The Bible, Revelation 20:14
