CAME BACK TO LIFE
BOTH THE JEWISH LEADERS AND GOVERNOR KNEW WHERE JESUS WAS BURIED, SO
ORDERED HIS TOMB SEALED SECURELY AND GUARDED BY SOLDIERS: Matthew 27:57-66
~ "As evening approached, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who had himself
become a disciple of Jesus. Going to Pilate, he asked for Jesus' body, and Pilate ordered that it be given
to him. Joseph took the body, wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and placed it in his own new tomb that
he had cut out of the rock. He rolled a big stone in front of the entrance to the tomb and went away.
Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were sitting there opposite the tomb. The next day, the one after
Preparation Day, the chief priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate. "Sir," they said, "we remember that
while he was still alive that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise again.' So give the order for the
tomb to be made secure until the third day. Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell
the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first." "Take
a guard," Pilate answered. "Go, make the tomb as secure as you know how." So they went and made the
tomb secure by putting a seal on the stone and posting the guard." [See also Mark 15:42-46; Luke
50-55; John 19:38-42]
JESUS' ENEMIES NEVER PRODUCED HIS DEAD BODY: Matthew 28:1-4, 11-15 ~ "After the
Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the
tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to
the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. His appearance was like lightning, and his clothes were
white as snow. The guards were so afraid of him that they shook and became like dead men. Some of
the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. When the
chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money,
telling them, "You are to say, 'His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were
asleep.' If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble." So the
soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated
among the Jews to this very day.
JESUS APPEARED TO OVER 500 PEOPLE AFTER COMING BACK TO LIFE: 1st Corinthians
15:3b-8 ~ "Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4that he was buried, that he was raised
on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After
that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still
living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all
he appeared to me also."
THE JEWISH SANHEDRIN [GOVERNING BODY] DID NOT DENY IT: Acts 4:2-21 ~ "They were
greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection
of the dead. They seized Peter and John and...put them in jail. But many who had heard the message
believed and the number of men grew to about five thousand. The next day the rulers, elders and
teachers of the law met...Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, 'Rulers and elders of the
people! ...Know this, you and all the people of Israel, it is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth
whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed....'
When they saw the courage of Peter and John...they were astonished and took note that these men had
been with Jesus....Then they command them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus....After
further threats, they let them go....because all the people were praising God for what had happened."
THE JEWISH HISTORIAN, JOSEPHUS, WHO LIVED IN JERUSALEM AT THE TIME OF
JESUS, WROTE A FEW YEARS AFTER THIS THAT JESUS RETURNED TO LIFE: Antiquities of
the Jews, 18:63-64 ~ "Now there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a
man; for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure.
He drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of the Gentiles. He was [the] Christ. And when
Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men amongst us, had condemned him to the cross, those that
loved him at the first did not forsake him; for he appeared to them alive again the third day; as the divine
prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him. And the tribe of
Christians, so named from him, are not extinct at this day."
Psalm 16:9,10 ~ "Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the grave,
nor will you let your Holy One see decay."
Acts 2:29-32 ~ The Apostle Peter explained, "Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this
day. But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. Seeing what was
ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay. God has raised this Jesus to life,
and we are all witnesses of the fact."
|he HAD TO DIE
SO HE COULD COME BACK TO LIFE
AND OVERCOME DEATH FOR US
|We shall all be changed in a flash,
in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.
For the trumpet will sound,
the dead will be raised imperishable,
and we will be changed.
For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable,
and the mortal with immortality.
When the perishable has been clothed with imperishable,
and the mortal with immortality
then the saying that is written will come true:
Death has been swallowed up in victory.
Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?
The sting of death is sin,
and the power of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God!
He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!
I Corinthians 15:52-57
Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire; the lake of fire is the second death.
